BEIJING—February 19, 2014 -- Agria Corporation (NYSE: GRO) (the "Company" or "Agria") today announced that it has teamed with Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation Ltd. to award the inaugural Agria-Hōaka Scholarship.  This scholarship is dedicated to honoring and supporting young leaders of Ngāi Tahu to pursue cultural and professional development, commit to intergenerational excellence, and strengthen global partnership.

The scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding Ngāi Tahu scholar, and is intended to support a year of work in his or her field of interest at an elite university in Beijing, China.  This year’s recipient is Miss Tāima Van der Leden, who will study Mandarin at Tsinghua University, considered one of the top universities in China.  At an award ceremony held on Monday, February 10th, the scholarship was presented to Miss Van der Leden by Agria Chairman Alan Lai, Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation CEO Mike Sang, and Madam Tan Xiutian, Consul-General of China in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Mr. Lai commented, “We are pleased to award the first ever Agria-Hōaka Scholarship to this year’s outstanding scholar, Miss Tāima Van der Leden.  Since Agria’s entry into the New Zealand market in 2009, we have learned from and grown together with Ngāi Tahu, and thus are excited about this opportunity to support the community.  Through this scholarship program, we hope to support the development of young leaders in Ngāi Tahu, as well as further strengthen the environmental and economic cooperation between New Zealand and China.”

Miss Van der Leden, 20, attends the University of Auckland, where she is pursuing a dual Bachelor of Science (majoring in mathematics and physics) and Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Māori and Spanish).  Upon her return from China, she intends to start the program for a Bachelor of Engineering, focusing on environmental or natural resources.
